Mr. Chew is responsible for origination and execution of all transactions for the Greater China region for Pramerica (Asia). Prior to this position, Mr. Chew was the Chief Investment Officer for Pramerica’s investment activities across Asia.
He comes to Pramerica with over 11 years of real estate investment experience in the Asia region. His most recent positions were with CapitaLand Limited, the largest developer in Southeast-Asia, where he was focused on opening new investment markets in the Middle East. Mr. Chew was instrumental in establishing the first JPY30 billion (US$260 million) Shariah-compliant real estate fund in Asia, followed by a second US$350 million fund in the Middle East. Prior to that, from 2001, he was Country Director for Japan at CapitaLand. He was the pioneer in building the firm’s operations in Japan, which under his charge, expanded into office, residential, retail, serviced apartments and hotel sectors.
Before assuming his role in Japan, Mr. Chew was the head of asset management for DBS Land (later merged into CapitaLand) overseeing the Singapore office, retail & industrial properties. This portfolio comprised 13 buildings totaling about S$3 billion (US$2 billion) in asset value at that time.
Mr. Chew began his career as a Singapore Government scholar and worked in the Joint Intelligence Directorate, Ministry of Defense. He holds a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. Mr. Chew is fluent in English, Chinese, Japanese, and Cantonese.
